Round 2 of North Island Champs took place at Tauranga over the weekend. With a fresh course cut only a few weeks ago and the super hot Bay of Plenty sun baking us all made for a great weekend of racing. The Revolution Products team was out in full force and looking to show the potential of the new Transition TR450’s. After seeding the team was looking good with Josh McCombie and Connor Hamilton 1st and 2nd in U15, Louis Hamilton in 1st in U17 (with a crash), Dan Meilink 6th in Senior men and Matty Walker coming in 2nd in Pro Men.
After a high performance lunch of chips, banana’s and Matty Walker downing what seemed 6 tubs of yogurt we were all in high hopes. First off were the U15’s, Josh came home in 1st and Connor wasn’t that far behind in 2nd (looks like these two will be dueling it out for many years to come). Louis Hamilton was pushing it hard for the win but unfortunately had crash (or two) which put him down too 4th place. Dan Meilink had a clean run and showed he’s still got pace to burn and came home with 2nd place but only .04 of second off 1st in Senior Men. With Matt seeding 2nd he was one of the last riders to come down and after watching plenty of Pro riders come down looking a little upset with their runs we though Matt was going take this one out. However this wasn’t Matt’s day as he had a crash on the last steep section however he got back on and pulled the biggest whip of the day on the last jump.
Still a great weekend and a big “thanks” goes the Tim and MTB Tauranga team for a top event.
